Distribution. Introduced. Cosmopolitan; Galápagos: Isabela, San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz (ICCDRS).

Remarks. This species has spread extensively throughout the warmer regions with commerce and is known to breed in human and other semiliquid wastes (Thompson 1991). This species was recently introduced to the Galápagos and adults have been recorded on flowers of Varronia leucophlyctis (Hook.f.) Andersson and Waltheria ovata Cav. (Hervías-Parejo & Traveset 2018) .
