Distribution. Introduced. Australasian/ Oceanian, Nearctic, Neotropical; Galápagos: Baltra, Floreana, Isabela, San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz, Wolf.

Remarks. This species ranges from littoral to highland humid zones. Throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the globe, it is considered to be a common scavenger (T. Pape pers. comm.). This species has also been introduced to the Cook Islands and French Polynesia (Society Islands) (Buenaventura & Pape 2013). Immature stages of this species were collected from nestlings (nostrils, feathers), dead birds, and from nest material (Fessl et al. 2001; Fessl & Tebbich 2002).
