canicularis (Linnaeus)
Musca canicularis Linnaeus, 1761: 454 .
Homalomyia canicularis: Coquillett 1901a: 375 [records].
Fannia canicularis: Curran 1932: 359 [record]; Linsley & Usinger 1966: 171 [checklist]; Pont 1972: 3 [catalogue]; Peck 1996: 122 [mode of introduction]; Peck et al, 1998: 228 [introduced species]; Carvalho et al. 2003: 9 [catalogue].
Distribution. Introduced. Cosmopolitan; Galápagos [doubtful record]: Isabela.
Remarks. Fannia canicularis is of temperate climates, and it is likely that if it was introduced in the Neotropics from the ships of early explorers, it would not become established. As such, this species is classified as a doubtful record. Supporting this idea, one of the females originally identified by Coquillett was found (in CAS) and tentatively determined as F. pusio (A.C. Pont pers. comm.).
