Sphecodes schenckii Hagens, 1882

Described as: Sphecodes schenckii Hagens, 1882: 217 –218. Synonyms: Sphecodes sulcicollis Pérez, 1903: CCVIII.

Subspecies: Sphecodes schenckii caspicus Meyer, 1920: 113 –114.

Distribution. North-east Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Russia, Turkey and Iran (Warncke 1992).

Biology. Rare species of warm localities, in most of the countries only few records. Lasioglossum discum (Smith) is supposed to be a host due to the similar distribution area, size and appearance (Blüthgen 1934). Grozdaniċ (1971) confirmed this species as host of S. schenckii . In northern Switzerland and in Germany L. discum is missing, so there has to be one or more other hosts, probably Halictus simplex (M. Herrmann, pers. comm. and pers. obs.).
