Distribution: Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, W Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Borneo.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Does not include lenis; see Vanitharani et al. (2003). See Hill (1983) and Corbet and Hill (1992) for discussion of subspecies. Reviewed in part by Bates and Harrison (1997). Some specimens referred to this species may represent lenis, which apprears to be broadly sympatric with papillosa (Vanitharani et al., 2003) .
