Pipistrellus (Pipistrellus) stenopterus Dobson 1875
Pipistrellus (Pipistrellus) stenopterus Dobson 1875, Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1875: 470.
Type Locality: Malaysia, Borneo, Sarawak.
Vernacular Names: Narrow-winged Pipistrelle.
Distribution: W Malaysia, Sumatra, Riau Arch., N Borneo, Mindanao (Philippines).
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Pipistrellus . Transferred from Nyctalus to Pipistrellus by Medway (1977) following Tate (1942 a). Koopman (1989 a, 1993) suggested that this species might best be returned to Nyctalus, but see Hill and Harrison (1987) and Corbet and Hill (1992), who instead placed it in Hypsugo . Volleth and Heller (1994) presented strong karyotypic evidence that stenopterus is a true Pipistrellus closely related to javanicus and mimus (the latter here considered a junior synonym of tenuis).
