Distribution: Numerous islands in Indonesia (see Kitchener et al., 1995 b); New South Wales; Taiwan; possibly Vietnam and peninsular Malaysia.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Includes taiwanensis; see Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1951); but see also Findley (1972). Includes carimatae; see Hill (1983). Does not include macropus, moluccarum, or solomonis; see Kitchener et al. (1995 b), who revised this complex, but also see Churchill (1998). Vietnamese records are dubious; see Bates et al. (1999). Subspecies affinities of a specimen from New South Wales are unclear; see Kitchener et al. (1995 b).
