Type species: Onthophagus (Proagoderus) ritsemae van Lansberge, 1883, by monotypy.

= Onthotrogus Motschulsky, 1860, type species: Copris auratus Fabricius, 1801, by monotypy (suppressed by ICZN 1993: Opinion 1708, see also Palestrini 1991).

= Melinocerus Motschulsky, 1860, type species: Copris harpax Fabricius, 1801, by monotypy (nomen oblitum, see Moretto 2013).

= Tauronthophagus Shipp, 1895, type species: Onthophagus rangifer Klug, 1855, by original designation.
