Genus Rhizoplagiodontia Woods 1989 (1 species)

Discussion: Does not include Myocastor, and apparently represents an entirely intra-Caribbean radiation (Woods 1989 a, b; Woods and Howland, 1979); but see comments under Myocastoridae . Woods (1982:386-387) included West Indian Heteropsomyinae in this family, but here this group is assigned to the Echimyidae (see comments under Heteropsomyinae). Varona (1974) and Corbet and Hill (1991:203) classified most of the following species in either of two genera ( Capromys or Plagiodontia), whereas Woods (1989 a, b) separated them into several distinct subfamilies and genera.
