Note: the redescription of Rhipicephalus longicoxatus in Hoogstraal (1956a) refers to a different species, as discussed in Walker et al. (2000), which is also the case with the redescription of Rhipicephalus longicoxatus in Hoogstraal (1953b) . Walker et al. (2000) list several instances of confusion between Rhipicephalus longicoxatus and other African Rhipicephalus species. As a consequence, no redescriptions of Rhipicephalus longicoxatus, apart from those of Walker et al. (2000), are included in the above lists.
