An Afrotropical species whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla: Bovidae, while larvae and nymphs are commonly recovered from Rodentia: Muridae . Adults and larvae have been collected from Carnivora: Canidae; adults alone have been taken from Artiodactyla: Bovidae and Suidae, Hyracoidea: Procaviidae, Perissodactyla: Equidae and Rhinocerotidae, and Carnivora: Felidae; nymphs and larvae have been found on Rodentia: Muridae . Rhipicephalus follis is a rare parasite of humans

Note: Theiler and Robinson (1953) allegedly redescribed the male and described the female, nymph and larva of Rhipicephalus follis, but all four of these descriptions actually apply to another species, Rhipicephalus lounsburyi, as explained in Walker (1990).
