An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Afrosoricida: Tenrecidae . Adults and nymphs have occasionally been recorded from Primates: Indriidae; adults alone have been collected from Rodentia: Muridae, and Pelecaniformes: Threskiornithidae, while nymphs have been found on Primates: Cheirogaleidae . There are no records of Haemaphysalis simplex causing human parasitism.
