An Oriental and Palearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Artiodactyla: Moschidae . Adults alone have been collected from Artiodactyla: Bovidae, and Lagomorpha: Leporidae, while larvae and nymphs have been recovered from Galliformes: Phasianidae . There are no records of Haemaphysalis moschisuga causing human parasitism.

Note: Camicas et al. (1998) treat Haemaphysalis moschisuga as a Palearctic species, but Teng and Jiang (1991) and Chen et al. (2010) also found this tick in the Chinese sector of the Oriental Zoogeographic Region.
