An Oriental species whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla: Suidae; larvae and nymphs are usually collected from Rodentia: Sciuridae . Adult ticks have been recovered from Mammalia (several orders), with rare records from Squamata: Pythonidae; immature stages have also been taken from Carnivora: Canidae, Rodentia: Muridae, and Squamata: Colubridae . Dermacentor compactus is a rare parasite of humans.
