A Neotropical species whose adults have been found on Perissodactyla: Tapiridae; nymphs have been collected from Artiodactyla: Tayassuidae, Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae, and Rodentia: Dasyproctidae . Amblyomma latepunctatum is a very rare parasite of humans.

Note: Amblyomma latepunctaum was reinstated by Labruna et al. (2005b). Prior to their study, Amblyomma latepunctatum was extensively confused with Amblyomma incisum and Amblyomma scalpturatum .
