A Nearctic and Palearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Suliformes: Phalacrocoracidae, but they have also been collected from Charadriiformes: Alcidae and Laridae; adults and nymphs have been recovered from Passeriformes: Fringillidae; adults alone have been taken from Carnivora: Otariidae . There are no records of Ixodes signatus causing human parasitism.
