Note: a tick largely confused with Amblyomma romitii, as explained in Barros-Battesti et al. (2007a). Amblyomma extraoculatum is treated as a Neotropical species in Voltzit (2007) under the incorrect authorship of Tonelli Rondelli, while Serra-Freire et al. (2012) allegedly found this tick in Peru but presented figures of another species.
