A Nearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Rodentia: Sciuridae . Adults and nymphs have been collected from Lagomorpha: Leporidae, and Carnivora: Procyonidae; adults alone have been recovered from Carnivora: Canidae, Mustelidae; immature stages have been found on Carnivora: Felidae, and Soricomorpha: Soricidae; undetermined stages have been taken from Artiodactyla: Bovidae, Rodentia: Cricetidae, and Passeriformes (unknown family) (Guglielmone et al. 2014, Scott et al. 2018, Lee et al. 2019). Ixodes marxi is a sporadic parasite of humans.
