An Australasian species whose adults and nymphs have been found on Diprotodontia: Potoroidae and Tarsipedidae; adults alone have been collected from Carnivora: Canidae and Felidae, Dasyuromorphia: Myrmecobiidae, Diprotodontia: Macropodidae, Perissodactyla: Equidae, and Rodentia: Muridae; nymphs alone have been recovered from Diprotodontia: Phalangeridae, and Passeriformes: Meliphagidae . Ixodes myrmecobii is a rare parasite of humans.
