An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages, including the undescribed larva, have been found on Soricomorpha: Soricidae; adults and nymphs have been collected from Carnivora: Herpestidae and Viverridae, and Rodentia: Muridae; adults alone have been recovered from Artiodactyla: Bovidae, Carnivora: Canidae and Felidae, and Rodentia: Nesomyidae; nymphs alone have been found on Macroscelidea: Macroscelididae, Pholidota: Manidae, and Rodentia: Sciuridae and Spalacidae . There are no records of Ixodes oldi causing human parasitism.

Note: difficulties may be encountered when attempting to morphologically differentiate the species of the Ixodes oldi group, specifically Ixodes oldi and Ixodes vanidicus, as discussed in Morel (2003), who considered it probable that these species are synonyms. Keirans et al. (1982) defined this group as comprising eight species ( brewsterae, catherinei, corwini, macfarlanei, nchisiensis, oldi, vanidicus and zairensis); therefore, collections of supposed Ixodes oldi should be reexamined to verify their specific status. Kolonin (2009) lists the nymph of Ixodes oldi as undescribed, but its description in Arthur (1958c) is treated as valid here.
