Note: Ixodes diversifossus is known from two mutilated females, one of which is missing. This species is very similar to Ixodes boliviensis, as discussed in Keirans and Clifford (1978) and Guglielmone et al. (2009), among others; therefore, a comparison of types will be required to determine whether Ixodes boliviensis is a synonym of Ixodes diversifossus or a valid species. According to Keirans and Clifford (1978), Ixodes spinipalpis and Ixodes dentatus have frequently been confused with Ixodes diversifossus . Nuttall and Warburton (1911) state that the figures of Ixodes diversifossus in Banks (1908) are unreliable. See also Ixodes boliviensis for additional taxonomic problems that may have a bearing on the status of Ixodes diversifossus .
