A Palearctic species (see note below), all of whose known parasitic stages have been found on Rodentia: Sciuridae; immature stages have been collected from Rodentia: Cricetidae and Muridae, Galliformes: Phasianidae, Passeriformes (several families), and Piciformes: Picidae . Ixodes columnae is a very rare parasite of humans.
