An Afrotropical species, adults of which have been found on Aves (several orders), and Hyracoidea: Procaviidae . There are no records of Ixodes daveyi causing human parasitism.

Note: Morel (1976) pointed out that there are morphological differences that make it difficult to associate the male of Ixodes daveyi described in Keirans et al. (1972) with females of Ixodes daveyi found on the same host, a view adopted by Camicas et al. (1998). Guglielmone et al. (2014, 2015) consider the male of Ixodes daveyi described in Keirans et al. (1972) to be provisionally valid.
