Genus Helina Robineau-Desvoidy
Description. The following combination of characters allows Macaronesian species of Helina to be recognized from other local genera of Muscidae: Paired dark marks usually visible on tergites III and IV of the abdomen; mouthparts non-predatory (prestomal teeth small, furcate apically); prosternum bare; anepimeron bare; vein C extensively setulose ventrally; radial node without setulae; vein M 1 not flexed or curved forward distally; hind tibia without a submedian pd seta.
