Comments. Five specimens (3 males and 2 females) were identified in the main Natural History Museum collection as M. tonkinea and 3 specimens (including the female holotype, 1 male and 1 female) were identified as M. punctifrons . 31 specimens (15 males and 16 females) were identified as M. tonkinea in the Gilmour collection. Yan et al. (2023) synonymized Mispila (s. str.) punctifrons Breuning, 1938 with Mispila (s. str.) tonkinea (Pic, 1925) .

‘Paksé’ refers to a city in Champasak province of Laos. ‘Phon Tiou’ is a locality in Khammouane Province, Laos. ‘Houei Sai’ (alternatively Houayxay, Huoeisay or Huay Xai) is a district in Bokeo Province, Laos near the border with Thailand.

The specimen labelled as ‘ Vietnam, Vientiane’ in an unfamiliar handwriting, is probably a labelling error by a curator for an incompletely labelled specimen which is in fact from Vientiane, Laos. The name ‘Anancyclus lunulatus? Ol.’ Was not traced, but is a misidentification of a specimen of M. tonkinea in the Bowring/Chevrolat collection.
