Antispila viticordifoliella Clemens

Antispila viticordifoliella Clemens, 1860: 209. Syntype mines, larva [USA: Pennsylvania, Easton], larvae on "wild grapes" [ Vitis vulpina], August–September, Brackenridge Clemens (ANSP if extant).

Differential diagnosis.

In the interpretation of this species by Chambers (1874a), as discussed above, Antispila viticordifoliella differs from the Antispila ampelopsifoliella group in missing the apical spot on the forewing and its long white antennal tip, the latter character is shared with Antispila hydrangaeella . We have as yet not seen such specimens originating from Vitis .

Biology.

Hostplant: Vitis vulpina . Leafmines not described in detail.

Distribution.

USA: Kentucky, Pennsylvania. Many records are unreliable and often refer to the isabella complex.
