Dinotoperla sp. NQLD1

Larva. Remarks. Morphologically and genetically distinct specimens but not associated with adults during this study. Location data suggest the specimens could be either a described species possibly: D. hybrida, D. kirrama, D. vulcania; or an as yet described species. Genetically this species was sister to D. sp. NQLD4, D. sp. NSW2 and D. uniformis . Specimens deposited in ANIC.

Mynott, Accession numbers: JMH1425, JMH1426 . 5 x larvae: 16km on Davies Creek Road, East of Mareeba ( Brindle Creek). -16.97609, 145.54569. Collected : 18-Jun-71, Collectors: EF Riek (housed in ANIC). 2 x larvae: Beatrice River, Palmerston Highway. -17.568518, 145.68321. Collected : 27-Jun-71, Collector: E.F. Riek (housed in ANIC).

Length: 5.8–6.7 mm.

Colour: Uniformly light brown. Pale patches off-centred on tergite X.

Body: Robust. Tubercules on thorax.

Head: Short robust setae on dorsal surface of head. Antennae with fringe of long fine setae on dorsal margin on first 15–20 segments. Antennae as long as body.

Thorax: Pronotum not wider than head. Raised area in centre of each pronotal division. Meso- and meta-nota with raised bosses and with raised area in medial area of hind margin. Metanotum hind margin width small and straight. Dark markings on hind margin of meso- and meta-nota and along notal join to wingpad.

Legs: Femora and tibia with fringe of long fine setae.

Abdomen: Hind margin of tergite X with short robust setae, similar to those on the segments on the surface. Tergites 6–9 with two dark spots off-centred. Purplish gills. Long robust setae on margins of cercal segments. Cerci shorter than abdomen. Paraprocts long and straight, length 1.5 times basal width.
