Atrichopogon (A.) pruinosus Kieffer, 1921

(Figs. 1 K, 2H)

Atrichopogon pruinosus Kieffer, 1921: 560 (description of female - probably holotype from Taihoku). Blech & Rohlfien 1987: 222 (in SDEI: holotype female, Taihoku, 1912).

Diagnosis. Eyes hairy, proximal flagellomeres spherical, paratergite with 1 seta, scutellum with 4 bristles.

Description. Female. Body small and robust, dark. Eyes pubescent, narrowly fused along the distance of 4 ommatidia. Mandible broad, armed with about 30 teeth. Proximal flagellomeres spherical, AR 2.00 (Fig. 1 K). Palpus 5-segmented. Third palpal segment slender, PR 2.60. Wing length 1.12 mm, CR 0.72. Wing bearing small number of macrotrichia in apical distal one-third (Fig. 2 H). Scutellum with 4 bristles, halter uniformly pale, paratergite with 1 seta. Abdomen not preserved.

Male unknown.

Material examined. Holotype female, labeled as follows: Taihoku, Formosa, H. Sauter, 1912, 7.XI, Holotypus, Typus, Atrichopogon pruinosus K., Kieffer det., SDEI. Abdomen and one flagellum missing.

Discussion. Atrichopogon pruinosus is known only from the type locality. The single preserved female is missing its abdomen; because of that, its subgeneric position is not quite certain. However, we believe that the other preserved characters will correctly indicate it to be a member of the subgenus Atrichopogon s. str.
