Amphileptus punctatus (Kahl, 1926) Foissner, 1984

Main morphological characters (according to Foissner 1984 and Foissner et al. 1995). Size 100–150 × 35– 55 µm in vivo. Body broadly drop-like, posteriorly broadly rounded. Two macronuclear nodules with a single micronucleus in between. Contractile vacuole ventral and subterminal. Extrusomes ovate, 3 × 1.5 µm in size, scattered in cytoplasm of anterior body region and attached to anterior portion of oral bulge. Somatic ciliary pattern Amphileptus -like; about 18–25 right and 4–6 left kineties.
Distribution. Amphileptus punctatus was found in the benthos of the Hron River (Tirjaková 1998) and of the Gidra River (Tirjaková 2003a).
Notes. Records of A. punctatus in the territory of Slovakia (Tirjaková 1998, 2003a) are questioned due to the taxonomic difficulties and lack of illustrations or microphotographs. For further details, see Issue 2 in ‘Notes and discussion on the checklist’.
