Ecteinascidia turbinata Herdman, 1880

Stations. SC12; SC13; SD8; SS1; SS10; SS6; SR23.

The Guiana colonies are composed of only a few zooids with a naked surface and resemble those figured in Monniot C. (1972) and Goodbody & Cole (2006). The zooids are 15mm long with short apical siphons close to each other. The main distinctive character is the wide open loop of the intestine. All anatomical characters are given in a description of the species by Monniot C. (1972) for Bermuda specimens.

E. turbinata is widely distributed in the Atlantic Ocean (Goodbody & Cole 2006). It is recorded from Florida to Brazil including the Mexican gulf, and also from Spain to Senegal and the Mediterranean Sea (Ramos et al 1991).
