Stelis ornatula (Klug, 1807)

Distribution: Europe, North Africa, and into Asia (Kasparek 2015).

Notes: The distribution map for Stelis ornatula presented by Kasparek (2015) in his review of West Palearctic Stelis includes Portugal. However, this record comes from the island of Madeira (Fellendorf et al. 1999) and we know of no records from mainland Portugal itself.

Stelis ornatula is the parasite of Hoplitis claviventris (Thomson, 1872) and H. leucomelana (Kirby, 1802) (Kasparek 2015), both of which occur in Portugal (Baldock et al. 2018). Stelis ornatula is known from Spain and is therefore highly likely to occur in mainland Portugal, but for now its presence here must be considered unconfirmed.
