Remarks. Manfredi (1953) placed her newly described species in the then monotypic subgenus Stygiiulus Verhoeff, emphasizing the similarity between T. ausugi and the type species— T. illyricus . This is one of the few Typhloiulus species in which the mouthparts are modified for a presumed semiaquatic lifestyle, the others being T. edentulus and T. serbani (Enghoff 1985) .
