Genus Warileya Hertig

Warileya Hertig, 1948: 12 . Type species, Warileya phlebotomanica Hertig, 1948 (orig. des.).

Hertigia Fairchild, 1949: 81 . Type species, Hertigia hertigi Fairchild, 1949 (orig. des.).

Comm.: Unlike Lutzomyia and Brumptomyia that present a wide diversity and distribution in the Neotropics, Warileya includes only nine described species, distributed in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and French Guiana (CIPA group 1999). The genus, which is associated principally with forest habitats, is represented in Colombia by the following two species, the last of which has been observed biting man in this country (Young 1979).
