Marsupium Swinderen, 1822: 86 .
TYPE SPECIES: Conops clavatus Scopoli, 1763, by monotypy .
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Sphegina Meigen, 1822, n. syn.
FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE .
REMARKS: Swinderen’s descriptive word for the genus-group name “Zakdrager” [= bag carrier] [the abdomen resembles a hobo stick with a bag at the end] is enough to make the generic name available. Additionally, the only included species ( clavatus) is here determined [by the placement of the genus in the list with related syrphid genera] to be the same as Conops clavatus Scopoli, 1763, which makes the genus-group name available by including a specific name that can be unambiguously assigned to a nominal species-group taxon (ICZN Code Art. 12.2.5). Conops clavatus Scopoli, 1763 is currently treated as a member of the syrphid genus Sphegina Meigen, 1822 [teste Thompson (1981: 473)]. Thus, Marsupium Swinderen, 1822 [21 September] is considered here a junior synonym of Sphegina Meigen, 1822 [before September], n. syn.
