Dictyostelium multistipes Cavender, Amer. J. Bot. 63: 63 (1976).

Sorocarps (Fig 1A) small, solitary or clustered, not phototropic, erect or semi-erect. Sorophores (Fig 1C) thin, consisting of single tiers of cells except bases (two cells), 0.2–0.6(–0.9) mm high, tapering from bases to tips. Sori white, globose, 30–75 µm diam. Spores (Fig 1D) hyaline, short, slight reniform to ellipsoid, usually 4.0–5.5 × 3.0–4.0 µm, occasionally larger 6.0–7.5 × 3.5–4.5 µm, with prominent polar granules. Cell aggregations (Fig 1B) flattened or small, with no stream. Myxamoebae (Fig 1E) 12–18 × 9–13 µm.

Cultures examined. HMJAU MR057. Strain 0082–1 isolated from forest soil (231 m elev.) collected in Hunchun City, Jilin Province, China .

Known distribution. Indonesia and China. New record for China.

Commentary. Dictyostelium multistipes was first isolated from humus and leaf mould of tropical rain forest in Indonesia, as reported by Raper (1984). The present collection is from the soil around a brook in the forest of Hunchun City situated in the Northern Hemisphere. The species is perhaps cosmopolitan, favoring somewhat moist environments.
