Replaced name: Helichrysum intermedium Simpson (1945: 201), nom. illeg., non Helichrysum intermedium Lessing (1832: 295) .

Type:— NEW ZEALAND. G. Simpson s.n. (holotype CHR, digital image with barcode CHR 76018!) .

Eponymy:— The specific epithet honours George Simpson (1880–1952), discoverer of the species.

Distribution:— New Zealand. Endemic.
