Polylobus sternalis (Broun, 1880)
Gyrophaena sternale Broun, 1880: 88 [Type locality: “near Whangarei Harbour” (Broun 1880)]. Species name transferred to Polylobus by Bernhauer & Scheerpeltz (1926: 768). The specific name is an adjective and was changed to the masculine spelling to agree with the gender of the generic name. The ending “-ale” is used to the neuter gender, so the ending “-alis” would also be correct in Gyrophaena (Alfred F. Newton, personal communication).
Distribution: New Zealand (Klimaszewski et al. 1996; Newton & Thayer 2005).
