Type genus. Ischyrocerus Krøyer, 1838

Diagnosis (modified from Myers & Lowry, 2003: 472). Antennae slender, antenna 1 with accessory flagellum (occasionally vestigial). Mandible palp with 3 articles, (Fig. 2 A2). Gnathopods with propodus longer than carpus, longer in gnathopod 2 than 1, propodus oval to weakly subchelate, except gnathopod 2 propodus in adult male strongly enlarged, of varying shape. Coxae 1–4 generally as long as broad (plate 2 occasionally of different shape), margins entire. Pereopods 5–7 slender, of similar form, carpus elongate, increasing in length backwards, dactyli forward curved. Urosomites 1–3 free. Uropods 1 and 2 peduncle without distoventral corona, with 2 subequal rami. Uropod 3 peduncle long, broad proximally, narrow distally, biramous. Telson entire, with a few simple or robust setae dorsally.
