Diagnosis. Mandible exodont, malar sulcus absent; vertex roundly concave; occipital carina incomplete. Postspiracular sclerite (prepectus) present; postero-dorsal margin of mesoscutum present. Vein Rs connecting to R1. Trochantellus absent; hind basitarsus (first tarsomere) longer than second tarsomere. Petiole absent, metasoma connecting to nucha directly (shown by Mason (1983)); some tergites and sternites fused (syntergite and synsternite); first metasomal spiracle on synsternite; ovipositor sheath not developed; ovipositor directed anteriorly when not in use; ovipositor housed in groove on ventral part of metasoma.

Host. Eucnemidae ( Coleoptera).

Distribution. Palaearctic, Oriental, and Nearctic regions.

Remarks. This monotypic family is composed of the genus Vanhornia and only extant species are known. Their biology was discussed by Muona (2021).
