Material. None.
Remarks. This taxon was described as a subspecies of Polycaena kansuensis on account of its similar male genitalia (Sugiyama, 2015). According to the original description, the genitalic differences between ssp. kansuensis and ssp. sakaii are found in the length and shape of the central plate, and the spinules at the distal portion of the harpe. In external features, ssp. sakaii differs from ssp. kansuensis in having larger reddish orange submarginal spots on the forewing upper side.
Distribution. Northern Sichuan (Aba Prefecture).
