Type data: This species was described based on an unknown number of females collected in an undetermined locality in Colombia. A syntype is currently housed at OUMNH and is here designated the lectotype. Type locality: Colombia .

Comments: The type locality cannot be further narrowed down than to Colombia, but probably it was collected in the Andes. As Centris insignis (= C. laticincta), the type specimen of this species was collected by Justin Gaud.
