Type data: Smith (1854) described this species based on at least two specimens of each sex collected in Jamaica. A lectotype female housed at NHMUK was designated by Moure (1969) and it has the following data label: Type H. T. [red-rimmed circular label, printed]\ B.M. TYPE HYM. [printed] 17B.934. [handwritten]\ Jamaica [handwritten]\ fasciata Sm. Type. [handwritten]\ Centris fasciata Smith. Type. [handwritten]. The lectotype is in good condition and is coded BMNH (E) 969530 in the NHMUK data portal. The current condition and depository of the paralectotype male is unknown.
Type locality: Greater Antilles: Jamaica .
Centris (Poecilocentris) fasciatella Friese, 1901 . 332 (unnecessary nom. nov. for C. fasciata Smith, 1854, see Moure et al., 2007).
Comments: The type locality cannot be further narrowed down than to Jamaica. This species was correctly interpreted by Moure (1969) and Snelling (1974, 1984).
