DISTIGMOPTERA BLAKE, 1943

Type species: Distigmoptera apicalis Blake, 1943 .

Synonymy: No generic synonyms.

Phylogenetic position: Distigmoptera has been traditionally placed in the subtribe Monoplatina, which has been confirmed as monophyletic in our analysis. We found Distigmoptera as sister to the clade containing moss-inhabiting Andersonaltica and Ulrica .

Diversity and distribution: A total of 16 species of Distigmoptera are known, including one in Canada, two in Costa Rica, three in Mexico and one in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Nine Distigmoptera species occur in the USA (Riley et al., 2003).
