Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Apogon imberbis (Linnaeus 1758) by George et al. (1964: 16); subsequently recorded as Apogon imberbis (Linnaeus) by Mouneimné (1977: 62); as Apogon imberbis (Linnaeus 1758) by Mouneimné (2002: 137); recently recorded as Apogon imberbis by Harmelin-Vivien et al. (2005: 629); as Apogon imberbis by Fanelli et al. (2015: 2169). Material in collection: AUBM and USNM.

Distribution. Mediterranean Sea, eastern Atlantic: Portugal south to Angola, including islands of Gulf of Guinea, Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands.

Conservation. IUCN: Global (DD: 13 July 2012); Med. (LC: 15 November 2007). Capture and threats: FIB, NIS, unknown. Occurrence: Common. Low priority for conservation action .
