Lepus (Sabanalagus) fagani Thomas 1902, Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1902 (2): 315.

Type Locality: "Zegi, Lake Tsana [Tana, Ethiopia] 4000 feet. [1219 m]" .

Vernacular Names: Ethiopian Hare.

Distribution: N and W Ethiopia, and adjacent SE Sudan, south to extreme NW Kenya.

Conservation: IUCN – Data Deficient.

Discussion: Subgenus Sabanalagus (Avarianov, 1998) . Formerly included in crawshayi (= victoriae = microtis) by Gureev (1964:204), but Azzaroli-Puccetti (1987 a, b) maintained its specific identity. Its known distribution is largely allo- or parapatric to that of microtis; may be a highland allospecies (Flux and Angermann, 1990).
