Discussion: Whether this monotypic genus represents "the most primitive of the living rabbits and hares" (Fa and Bell, 1990), or is closer to the more specialized leporids ( Sylvilagus, Oryctolagus, Lepus) (Corbet, 1983), or is intermediate (Hibbard, 1963), remains controversial.
