Type Locality: Indonesia, Prov. of Papua (= Irian Jaya), Djajawidjaja (= Jayawijaya) Division, Helwig Mtns, south of Mt. Wilhelmina, 2600 m.

Vernacular Names: Speckled Dasyure.

Synonyms: Neophascogale rubrata (Thomas 1922); Neophascogale venusta (Thomas 1921) .

Distribution: C New Guinea (highlands).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Uncommon.

Discussion: Previously included Phascogale nouhuysi Jentink, 1911, but Husson (1955) showed that it is based on a specimen of Phascolosorex doriae .
