Bromus distachyos Linnaeus, Flora Palaestina: 13. 1756.
"Habitat in H. [= Hasselquist] …Palaestina.” RCN: 653.
Lectotype (Schippmann & Jarvis in Taxon 37: 158, f. 1. 1988): Hasselquist, Herb. Linn. No. 93.48 (LINN; iso- UPS-HASSELQ 70) .
Current name: Brachypodium distachyon (L.) P. Beauv. ( Poaceae).
Note: Sherif & Siddiqi (in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 145: 87. 1988) wrongly indicated the post-1756 93.46 (LINN) as type, and Meikle (Fl. Cyprus 2: 1815. 1985) indicated "Type: …LINN!” without distinguishing between sheets 93.46 and 93.48. Schippmann & Jarvis designated 93.48 (LINN) as a neotype because they doubted whether it could be regarded as original material for the name. However, as the type is a Hasselquist collection, closely associated with the thesis in which the binomial appeared, it does appear to be original material, and the collection should be treated as a lectotype under Art. 9.8.
