Bidens bullata Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 833. 1753.
"Habitat in America." RCN: 6028.
Neotype (Jeanmonod in Gamisans & Jeanmonod, Compl. Prodr. Fl. Corse, Asteraceae I: 172. 1998): Herb. Linn. No. 975.15 (LINN) .
Current name: Bidens tripartita L. subsp. bullata (L.) Rouy ( Asteraceae).
Note: Sherff (in Publ. Field Mus. Nat. Hist., Bot. Ser. 16: 286. 1937) noted the existence of 975.15 (LINN) and concluded that Linnaeus "drew his description either from this specimen or from another identical with it", and that it was a European, not an American, plant. In fact, this collection reached Linnaeus from David van Royen long after 1753, and could not have been the basis for the name.
