Lectotype (Isely in Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 25(2): 189. 1975): [icon] " Chovanna-mandaru " in Rheede, Hort. Malab. 1: 59, t. 33. 1678.

Current name: Bauhinia purpurea L. ( Fabaceae: Caesalpinioideae).

Note: De Wit (in Reinwardtia 3: 408. 1956) wrongly chose a neotype (original elements are in existence), and so Isely’s appears to be the earliest formal type choice.
